This handy piece of advice came to me this week, and then I promptly began making excuses. Not right now, maybe later, I don’t feel like it, the world has gone crazy so what’s the point, and so on and so forth. But this morning, I knew I had to stop making excuses and start making progress. This is for all those who, like me, find yourselves floating around trying to figure out why you should even worry about making progress when the world seems to be on fire and the future is filled with uncertainty.
We choose to make progress not because (or not only because) we have hope for a better tomorrow. We choose to make progress because it matters today. Right now, our choices for moving forward in whatever area we are called to progress in matter. They matter in the moment. Because in the moment is where we are called to be obedient to the call of Christ. He calls us to follow Him now, not tomorrow or next week or when we feel like it or when the world makes sense. He calls us to answer and respond in this moment. And this moment matters. Because this moment is when we get to be in the presence of Christ, to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, and to learn to rely on the provision of our Father.
So let me encourage you now to keep dreaming, keep planning, keep hoping, keep progressing because our God is good and faithful and just. His goodness may not be reflected in the society around us, but it is reflected in the hearts of His people.
Keep progressing in your relationship with God. Keep progressing in whatever He has called you to do even if you don’t see the point. Because God has a plan, and He is calling to you now to seek Him, trust Him, and grow in Him. He is calling you to keep progressing. Especially when you would rather make excuses.
