Anxiety. Worry for the future. Will there be enough? Can I earn enough? Can I afford it? What if?
How many times have I allowed concern over available resources (like money) to cloud my mind and steal my joy and confidence?
Making decisions that will impact my financial situation is scary. But when fear threatens to drown me with doubt, God whispers that He is still in control. He reminds me that He has never left me with too little to accomplish His will. He has always provided. He always will.
I begin to remember that it’s not my money, my time, or my resources. I am here on God’s dime and working in His time. He is my benefactor, my provider, my employer, my guardian.
“For every animal in the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.”
Psalm 50:10
God’s resources are limitless. All that we see, all that we have, all that has been or will be are His. When we operate in His will, He is the one who provides the resources necessary to accomplish His purposes. We do not succeed by working out of our own strengths and abilities, but by depending on Him.
I am His child, His ambassador, His steward. He provides my identity and means of accomplishing His work. It also means that I am His responsibility to care for while I am stewarding the resources He places in my hands.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Psalm 23:1
I shall not want for anything. I shall not lack anything I need to follow God’s will and purpose for my life. He sends me on a mission and provides all I need.
God is our provider. We can rest assured that He is looking after us with the diligence of a loving father overseeing His children. We don’t need to be anxious about our future. God has already seen it and He has already made sure our provision is there waiting for us.
When we know we are walking in God’s will, we can respond to the naysayers (including ourselves) with confidence.
When they say, “You don’t have enough money.” You can reply, “I don’t have enough, but my Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills, and He’s the one bankrolling this operation.”
When they say, “You can’t accomplish that because you don’t have enough experience.” You can admit, “I don’t have enough experience, I seem to be unqualified, but my God created the very idea for this and is a Master in that area. I’m His apprentice and shall not want for the help or resources I need.”
The next time you find yourself in a situation where you fear you won’t have enough try this:
- Pray – connect with God and confirm that you are walking in His will
- Acknowledge your fears and hand them over to God
- Take a step of faith and move in the direction God is calling you
- Watch as He opens the next door or shows you the next step that will lead you forward
- Worship God for who He is and thank Him for His boundless provision
Remember: You are not walking through life on your own. God is with you, He is for you, and He will provide all you need. Our confidence is not in ourselves, but in our God.
May our walk with God spark confidence to bravely proclaim, “My God will provide for all my needs, therefore I will move forward boldly as His plan for my life unfolds.”
